Two weekends and a Birthday

I need to catch up! This has been the most I've kept up with a "journal ", but I seem to be falling behind. SO here's what has been going on with us crazy folk.

Last weekend we finally made it to the beach and we loved it! Baby David at first was weird-ed out with the sand but before he even noticed he was off the towel and playing in it. We were hoping to get a tan but soon after we arrived there were clouds and so we remain pasty for now. We did however enjoy a DELICIOUS coconut water and its my new favorite beverage.
Sunday night we were invited to a family home evening and dinner to have some yummy chili. People here believed it was a Mexican dish. They were excited to make it for us (being Mexican and all) and we had to disappoint them and let them know it wasn't. Either way we are big fans of chili and enjoyed every bite.

You will see this is a trend with our pictures....We are never successful with taking a proper family picture.

And then we give up.

With our hosts of the evening

During the week the baby got sick with s cold and so we had no choice but to stay indoors. It was rainy and gloomy most days so it worked out just fine. That didn't stop us from celebrating my Love's 29th birthday.

Being the great homemaker I am it only took four times, you heard it FOUR times for me to finally make a decent edible cake. I don't have measuring cups, I don't have all the same ingredients, and I'm no Martha Stewart. I was honestly so fed up at one point that I was going to just go buy a cake but it was raining and I knew I had to try just one more time. Alas  success and it was tasty. Of course we also had moyetes ( a Porras/Siller  tradition) and sang happy birthday in 5 languages. David's colleagues are from France, Italy, Mexico, and Eben (Brazilian ) plus us (English speakers) made it extra special. David was happy and so I was very happy. Perfect day minus all the cake chaos of course.
Nestle clan
Eben came bearing gifts for both David and the Baby, thank you!

Once again here is more attempts to taking a family picture.

Take 1

Take 2

                                                                            ..................and fail

Friday I was invited to an all ladies lunch with great food and awesome company. Once more I say people here are like no other, so inviting and loving.
This weekend we headed over to Victoria both on Friday and Saturday for dinner. We ate WAY too much on both days but it was all so delicious and we enjoyed every single bite.

David's work schedule has been quite hard on us. We wish we had more time with each other during the week, but we make the best of the time we do have together. I'm thankful for my hardworking Budu! He doesn't have the easiest job but I know that he gives it everything he can for us. I'm the lucky girl that gets to spend eternity with him. Happy 29th  birthday Budu, here's to many many more years and many more disaster cakes!

Mas

Oh what fun we have had the few hours we've been able to spend together here. We are continuing to love this place especially the people. I don't think we've been embraced and welcomed like this ever, and we've been very lucky in the past. But as I've mentioned before, the people here are like no other. Today in the bread shop, (somewhere you will find me daily) we ran into an older woman that talked and talked and talked. She wished us all the best gave us parenting advice, wished a million blessings upon the baby etc. It's just how some people roll here.

I was fortunate to meet some of David's co-workers at a churrasco they hosted. As always Baby David was passed around and he loved it. He's a social baby, fortunately he is good with everyone and goes with anyone. Also for the weekend we were invited over for lunch with some members of our church and later went to do some errands. Once again no beach, but we are going this Saturday no excuse!!! We've gone, we just haven't really enjoyed it to the fullest.

Sunday was Father's day here. Baby David love's his dad. I love seeing him wanting to be with him everywhere! It's especially cute when David gets home the baby bolts to the door crawling to his arms. The other day his excitement got the best of him and as he crawled to dad he slipped on a book. He just laid there in shock, he couldn't figure out what had just happened.

Sunday we were invited over for some cake for our new friend Eban's birthday. The cake was absolutley delicious and I regret not having a second peace, and the company was wonderful. Baby David once again was happy as can be and we honestly could not be happier with such good company.David as always is working very hard, and works long hours  which leaves me and the baby alone, but meeting all these new people and knowing they are here for us has made all the difference. I just hope the soon I can enjoy more time with my hubby especially on the beach! I truly appreciate all the hard work he puts in for our little family.

He LOVED the guava juice they gave him. Drank it all.

Already being a true Brazilian. I don't know why but he loves watching sports, more than cartoons.

Other news is that Baby David started swimming lessons. So far we have just gone to one, tomorrow we go again. He was really cranky for his first one cause this little rebel didn't want to take his nap. We will see how it goes tomorrow. I on the the other hand had fun but am SO sore, who knew it was a workout for the mama. I don't believe it actually is but I have not been to the gym or done any exercise in way too long. In the short 30 minute session of lifting the baby and squatting in the 4 ft pool really had my body burning. I got to get my money's worth no? We'll see if it's really worth it.

The after math.

Oi

Our first full week  in Brazil!!! Oh how we are loving this place. As always though the first few days are very hard on me, but then I realize I need to get over myself and enjoy everything around me. Another downer was that we all got a cold. We are barley getting over it and we haven't been able to go enjoy the beach....and we are only four blocks away!!! What a tease right? The internet we were given is a pain to deal with, besides the fact it's a USB that hates me and works only with David works his voodoo magic on it, it is SLOW.....but I'm learning to just deal with it and get use to it. There might be places we end up living where it will be worse.

The three semesters I took of Portuguese were not enough for me to understand everything here. In fact I feel I barley understand anything at all. It's a lot different hearing the real thing than seeing it on paper. Regardless of the language barrier and minor bumps we have with technology I can say I love it here so far. The people here are so happy and nice. I don't know how to explain it, it's like what you feel when you go to your grandma's house (or at least how I feel going to my grandma's house). Automatic love, warm welcoming, and hugs. If you have a problem with people being in your personal space don't come here because people talk to you everywhere, ( I have yet to really know what they are saying right..) complement your cute baby, (if you have one) and are genuinely interested in making you feel welcomed. We have seen this in restaurants, stores, and at church of course. We loved going to our ward, people were so sweet, and I was especially proud that I understood almost everything that was said. But seriously back on the topic of the people here, they are wonderful!  In Switzerland I was totally out of place with the language and how things were done, here same thing, but I don't feel so out of place because of the way people treat me. I'm not saying Swiss people aren't nice, I'm just saying that the people treat me here have made me feel very comfortable.

We have been in heaven with the food. We LOVED the food in Switzerland  (I'm missing it like CRAZY)but it really burned a hole in our pockets so we (I) ate mostly bread and cheese for most of my meal......though I didn't mind at all with THEIR bread and cheese.  Anyway here the food has been DELICIOUS. I am in heaven with the fruit, and David with the meat. I honestly don't think any vegetarian would last here.

The first weekend here we did lots of shopping for things we needed for the house including groceries, but this weekend  we hopefully finally make it to the beach, and get this internet thing fixed.
Loves melon juice!

This bag was FULL of the chocolates! David works at the factory, and though they are not Swiss chocolate, they are quite delicious....and almost all gone thanks to me.

Sick but happy as always! Love my baby boy.

I forgot to mention, I have honestly never seen so much beauty in my life. The people here are gorgeous! It is no wonder half of the supermodels are Brazilian. Baby David notices the beauty too. Love at first sight it seemed. He just stared and stared.
